August 1922. American journalist Jerry Thompson, who traveled to the country of the Soviets, arrives in Azerbaijan. He also visits the Mardakan settlement of Baku. Here he meets an elderly man in his summer house. Thompson cannot believe what he is hearing. In front of him is Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev, who was once a major oil producer, millionaire and philanthropist, but lost all his wealth after the establishment of Soviet power. Haji was telling the guest the story of his life path from a simple builder to an influential oil industrialist. The working title of the film was “The Protector”. The film is the 1st film in a 4-part series. The series, which consists of 4 films, had a 15-month preparation period, a 9-month shooting period, and 135 shooting days. The artistic team prepared sketches of costumes and costumes for more than 150 main characters, more than 400 types of clothing, and 100 accessories - jewelry samples. Various products were acquired, including period clothing, headgear, boots, and sandals made by craftsmen from different regions of the country. Shirts and belts brought from Turkey, jewelry and accessories purchased from an Indian exhibition and kept in private collections were rented and added to the database. 1,600 costumes from the clothing and props department of the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio entered the film’s costume workshop. 3,600 people were dressed throughout the filming and their clothing line was decided in accordance with the script. The film was shot in more than 70 locations, and more than 300 decorations were prepared. The film was shot with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the Film Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
