The last mountain pass (1971)
The events in the film take place in one of the mountain villages of Azerbaijan in the early years of the establishment of Soviet power - in the 1930s.
The film was shot in two copies with different endings. In the Azerbaijani version, Gamlo is killed by Karbalai Ismayil, and in the Russian version, by a fugitive who is always hiding near the grave of Yadulla (Karbalai Ismayil's deceased son). Both copies are currently preserved. Director Kamil Rustambeyov shot the ending of the film as follows: Gamlo ignores Karbalai's words and goes after the horsemen and kills Abbasgulu bey. Karbalai, who falls on his word, goes after Gamlo, but cannot save Abbasgulu bey and kills Gamlo in anger. The high-ranking film critics did not like the brave portrayal of Karbalai and demanded that the director change the ending of the film. The director makes a short shot, Gamlo is killed by Khudayar's brother, the film is released after editing. However, if we look carefully at the film, we will see that one of Karbalai's men comes in a panic and informs the villagers that Karbalai killed Gamlo. This scene, which remains in the film, proves the above.
The film was shot based on the motifs of Farman Karimzadeh's novel "Snowy pass".
The film was shot in Gobustan, Baku and in the pavilion. Most of the natural objects were shot in the village of Fatmayi in Baku.
