Sayavush Karimi (Siyavush Karimi) was born in Baku.

He studied in the tar class of the Bulbul Secondary Specialized Music School (1969-1972, Ahsen Dadashov's class), and at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1972-1977).

Since 1979, he has been one of the soloists in the orchestra of the Rashid Behbudov State Song Theater, a member of the "Azkonsert", "Ashighlar" groups, the "Jangi" pop-folklore ensemble, the pop-symphonic orchestra of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio, and has worked as an artistic director at the Rafig Babayev music studio of the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio.

He is known as the author of many international projects. In 1997, the Azerbaijan-Norway and in 2002, the Azerbaijan-South America music projects were implemented under his leadership. He is the co-author of the textbook "Saz Mektebi" and the compiler of the two-volume collection "Azerbaijani Folk Songs".

He was the rector of the Azerbaijan National Conservatory (2001-2024).

He was awarded the "Golden Dervish" award for the music he wrote for the play "Hamlet" staged at the Academic National Drama Theater (2003).

He was awarded the "Shohrat" (2014) and "Sharaf" (2020) orders.

He is a People's Artist (2005).
