Dublyazh studio
Establishment date: 1993
First director: Arif Habibi
The dubbing department of “Azerbaijanfilm” has been operating as a dubbing studio since 1993.
In the 1930s, the first serious steps in the field of dubbing began in Azerbaijan. Russian director M.Donskoy carried out a new experiment for Soviet cinema. He dubbed the English feature film “The Invisible Man” into Russian. Inspired by this, film director Shua Sheykhov appealed to the management of the film studio and stated that he wanted to dub the film “Chapayev” in Azerbaijani. He and V.Konstantinov were entrusted with dubbing “Chapayev”. The text was translated by Yusif Vazirov (Y.V. Chamznzaminli, 1936). M.Belousov was assigned the job of sound engineer. Aghahuseyn Karimov was his assistant. Soon, film workers from many republics began to come to Baku to undergo internships in dubbing and learn the technology of this work. Thus, the foundation of dubbing work in the former USSR was laid by Baku cinematographers. In general, during the Soviet period, up to 80 foreign films were dubbed into Azerbaijani at the Film Studio every year.
