Vidadi Pashayev was born in Yardimli.
After graduating from school in Ganja with a gold medal, he entered the Philology Faculty of Azerbaijan State University. He studied at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography named after Sergey Gerasimov in Moscow.
He was a responsible secretary in the magazine "Gobustan", editor-in-chief of the publishing house "Ganjlik" (1970), head of the Art and Radio Theater Department at the Azerbaijan State Radio and Television. He worked at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio.
Some of his poems and stories were collected in the book "The End of a Long Separation is a Reunion". He is the author of the libretto for the opera "Beguiled Stars". He translated the French writer Stendhal's story "Vanina Vanini" and the Polish writer Janusz Pszymanowski's story "Four Tankmen and a Dog" into Azerbaijani. He was the scriptwriter for short films in the satirical magazine Mozalan (1971-1985).
He taught at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow.
Vidadi Pashayev died in 1991 and was buried in Ganja.
