Vagif Sharifov was born in Ganja.

He studied at the Directing Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1967).

He began his career in theater in 1960. He worked as a director at the Ganja State Drama Theater (1967-1974), chief director at the Sumgayit State Drama Theater (1974-1977), chief director at the Agdam Drama Theater (1977-1981), production director (1981-1984), director and artistic director at the Ganja State Drama Theater (1984-1998).

He was awarded the “Golden Dervish” award for the production of the play “The Law Broker” (2003).

He was awarded the “Progress” medal (2013).

Honored Artist (1992), People's Artist (2014) Vagif Sharifov died in Ganja in 2021 and was buried in the Ganja City Alley of Honor.
