Vagif Alikhanli (Vagif Alikhanov) was born in the village of Yerfi in Guba.
He studied at the Library Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Azerbaijan State University (1961-1967).
He worked as an editor in the art department of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee (1968-1971), senior editor (1971-1976), acting editor-in-chief at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio (1976-1979), member of the script editorial board (1979), editor-in-chief of the theater and art department of the Ministry of Culture (1979-1981), and head of the Department of Theater and Concert Institutions (1981). In 1991, he returned to television and served as director of the “News” and later “Literary-Drama” studios. In 1993, he created the People's Creativity editorial office at the Radio and continued his work there as editor-in-chief. In the following years, he worked as editor-in-chief at “Space”, ABBA, Lider, and for a short time at ANS TV. Since 2008, he has been the editor-in-chief of the Dubbing editorial office of Space TV. He served as editor-in-chief of “Gobustan” magazine (2013-2021), chairman of the Guba branch of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (2015-2022).
He began his literary career with ethnographic stories written for the radio and tv programs. Translations are available. The books have been published.
Laureate of the “Golden Pen” award (1972), Honored Cultural Worker (2019) Vagif Alikhanli died in 2024. He was buried in the Gurd Gate cemetery.
