Svetlana Hakimova was born in Sumgayit.

Since 1959, she has performed in various roles at the People's Theater established under the Sumgayit City Jafar Jabbarli House of Culture.

She worked at the Sumgayit State Musical Drama Theater (1968-1978), the Agdam State Drama Theater (1978-1990), the Fuzuli State Drama Theater (1990-1992), and again at the Sumgayit State Musical Drama Theater (1992-2011).

Her performance of Shirin in the play "Farhad and Shirin" (Samad Vurgun) was awarded the "Gold Medal" at the All-Union Festival.
