Shovkat Alakbarova was born in Baku.
She studied at the Asaf Zeynalli Music School in the class of Huseyngulu Sarabsky.
In 1937, she participated in a competition of amateur groups and attracted attention with her performance. This competition laid the foundation for her entry into professional music. She worked as a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Song and Dance Ensemble (1938-1945), and since 1945, of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic.
Honored Artist (1954), People's Artist (1959) Shovket Alakbarova died in 1993 and was buried in the Alley of Honors.
Singer Shovkat Alakbarova was the wife of director and actor Latif Safarov.
