Seyid Shushinski

Seyid Shushinski (Mir Movsum agha Seyid Ibrahim oghlu) was born in the village of Horadiz, Shusha district (now Fuzuli region).
He studied with Navvab for two years. His next teacher was Jabbar Qaryaghdioghlu. He sang the complex mugham "Chahargah" with great skill. He was the first singer to sing poems and ghazals on socio-political topics and call on the people to fight. He sang songs with a militant spirit. He provided financial assistance for the publication of several issues of Molla Nasreddin. He was helping theater actors of the time. He himself played a number of roles as an actor. He performed the roles of Majnun, Ibn Salam in Uzeyir Hajibeyov's opera "Leyli and Majnun", as well as Sarvar and Asgar in the musical comedies "O olmasin, bu olsun", "Arshin mal alan". In addition to "Chahargah", he was a wonderful performer of mughams such as "Mahur", "Neva", "Masnavi", "Osmani", "Arazbari", "Heyrat". As an innovative artist, he combined many mughams and sang them in new versions ("Rast-Humayun", "Gatar-Bayati", "Shur-Shahnaz"). He performed "Dilkesh" for the first time in "Rast" and "Kurdi-Shahnaz". He assisted Fikret Amirov as a consultant in the writing of the symphonic mughams "Shur" and "Kurdi-Ovshari". Jabbar Qaryaghdioghlu called him "the pearl of Eastern music."
He taught khanand at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1926-1933) and the Baku Music School (since 1943).
Honored Artist (1943), People's Artist (1956), Honored Teacher (1961) Seyid Shushinski died in 1965.
