Sabit Rahman (Sabit Mahmudov) was born in Sheki.
He studied at the Nukha Model Labor School (1921), the Literature Faculty of the Baku Darulmuellimi (1923-1926), the Literature Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute (1929-1932), and the scriptwriting courses of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1936-1937).
Teacher at the primary school in Nukha (1926-1929), employee in the editorial office of the "Young Worker" newspaper (1929-1933), executive secretary of the "Revolution and Culture" magazine (1932-1933), editorial employee of the "Mubariz" newspaper of the political department of the Nukha MTS (1933-1934), head of the literary section of the Azerbaijan State Drama Theater (1934–1936), head of the children's section of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (1935), head of the script department of the Baku Film Studio (1937-1938), prose consultant at the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (1938), research worker at the Jafar Jabbarli Theater Museum (1939-1940), head of the theater department of the Department of Art Affairs of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR (1941-1942), deputy head of the Department of Art Affairs of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR (1942-1944), director of the Baku Film Studio (1945-1946), Deputy Minister of Cinematography of the Azerbaijan SSR (1945-1946), Advisor on Dramaturgy at the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan and Teacher at the Theater Institute (1947-1951).
In 1926, he began his literary career with the feuilleton "Life Tablets in the Rabfak Library" published in the magazine "Molla Nasreddin" under the pseudonym "Sheikh Samit". In 1927, his first poem was published in the collection "Golden Pen" published in Nukha. In 1932, his first book of stories called "Pozgun" was published. In 1938, he wrote his first comedy called "Toy". In 1939, the comedy "Toy" was staged at the Azerbaijan State Drama Theater.
Honored Artist (1943) Sabit Rahman died in 1970 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
Writer and playwright Sabit Rahman is the father of composer Emin Sabitoghlu.
