Rafail Gambarov

Rafail Gambarov (Rafael Gambarov / Rafig Gambarov) was born in Grozny, Chechnya.
He studied at the Cinematography Department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1966-1971, L. Kosmatov's workshop).
During his high school years, he was involved in the photography club "Palace of Pioneers and Schoolchildren" in Baku. For several years, he worked as a production operator at the Samara Newsreel Studio in Russia (1968-1970), and later at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio. He was the founder and first head of the Union of Photographers of Azerbaijan (1998-2007). He was a photographer and department head at the "Yurd" magazine (1991-1993).
He worked as a senior advisor to the Press Service of the Milli Majlis (1996-2012). Advisor to the Civil Service (2006), Chief Advisor to the Civil Service (2009), awarded the medal "For Distinction in the Civil Service" (2012).
He has exhibited dozens of photos.
He taught at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art (1987-1991 / 2004). He is a co-author of the textbook "Photo Composition" (2021, together with Amin Novruzov).
Honored Artist (1986) and laureate of the USSR State Prize (1981).
