Osman Sarıvalli (Osman Gurbanov) was born in the village of II Shikhli (Sarivalli) in Gazakh.
He studied at the Gazakh Teachers' Seminary and the Philology Faculty of Moscow State University (1929-1932).
He worked as a teacher at the Garamaryam and Bigir village schools of Goychay (1926-1929), a teacher at the Baku Pedagogical Technical School (1932-1935), a principal at the Baku Theater Technical School (1939-1940), deputy principal at the Nizami Institute of Language and Literature, editor of the "Literature Newspaper", editor at "Ushaggenjneshr", and a consultant on poetry at the Writers' Union.
He began his literary career in 1928. In the same year, his first poem "Ayagsız" was published in the "Ganj Ichi" newspaper. His first book, "Demir satırırim", was published in 1934. The author of numerous books, he also worked in the field of compiling and researching folk art and ashug works. He was engaged in literary translation.
People's Poet (1977) Osman Sarivelli died in 1990 and was buried in Gazakh.
