Ogtay Alizadeh was born in Baku. He studied at the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography, Faculty of Drama and Television Directing (1969-1974).

He began his career as a lighting engineer at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio, and from 1963 he continued as a newsreel cameraman (taught by Alibala Alakbarov). Later he began working as a cameraman at Azerbaijan Television. Since 1974, he has continued his professional activities as a director and cameraman.

He has directed more than 150 films.

In 1994, he participated in many filming operations during the Karabakh events.

He was awarded the “Teraqgi” medal (2016).
