Nuraddin Babayev was born in Ganja.
He studied at the Philology Faculty of Azerbaijan State University (1944-1949).
He began his journalistic activity as a literary worker in the newspaper "Azerbaijan Pioneri" (1940-1941). In 1941-1943, he participated in battles on the front line during World War II, was seriously wounded and returned to Baku with the rank of senior lieutenant. He worked as a department head in the editorial office of the newspaper "Kommunist" (1943-1945), deputy editor in the newspaper "Azerbaijan Muallimi", editor-in-chief in "Ushakganjneshr" (1953), and editor-in-chief at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio. In 1951, he began his scientific and pedagogical activity in the Journalism Department. Since 1953, he has worked as a senior lecturer in the Journalism Department. Defending his PhD thesis on the topic “Development of the artistic essay in Azerbaijan”, he received the degrees of Candidate of Philological Sciences (1958), Doctor of Philological Sciences, and became an Associate Professor (1962). In 1969, he played a role in organizing the Faculty of Journalism and the Union of Journalists. He worked as the head of the Department of Journalism at Azerbaijan State University, later the head of the department, and the dean of the Faculty of Journalism. He is the scientific editor and one of the main authors of the two-volume book “Issues of Journalism”, which is the first stable textbook in the history of Azerbaijani journalism. He was awarded the “Golden Pen” award for the book “Issues of Journalism” (1966). He was the chairman of the essay and publicistics council of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan, the secretary of the Board of the Union of Journalists. He is the organizer of the “Journalism” series of scientific works and the “Journalist” educational newspaper.
He created the theoretical foundations of the essay style in Azerbaijani literature. He played a role in organizing the Literature and Art Archive in Azerbaijan. He began his literary career in 1939. His first book, "Eternal Heroism," was published in 1945. "Letters to My Son," "Girls Want a Word," "Girls, My Word is for You," "Light and Love," and "When Hearts Are One" are some of his works. His works have been translated into foreign languages.
Writer, journalist, professor (1981), publicist, Honored Artist (1982) Nuraddin Babayev died in 1991 and was buried in the Second Alley of Honor.
