Nizami Abbas (Nizami Abbasov) was born in the village of Bayramli in the Shamkir region.

He studied at the Cinematography Department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1988).

He began his career as an assistant cameraman at Lenfilm (1974-1975, Russia). Since 1976, he has worked at Azerbaijanfilm, then at the Yaddash studio. In 1991, he voluntarily went to the front and filmed in war zones. For a while, he was the artistic director of the Documentary Films Cinema and Television Studio of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1992-1998). First, he worked as a cameraman, then as a director. Since 2005, he has been heading the Yurdfilm studio he founded. The film Balaban was awarded the Golden Fairy award in the nomination "Best Directorial Work in a Documentary" (2015).

He is an Honored Artist (2007).

Director and cinematographer Nizami Abbas is the father of cinematographer Uzeyir Abbas.
