Niyazi Badalov was born in Sheki.

He studied at the Directing Faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1931-1936, Sergey Eisenstein's class).

In 1927, he began his career as an assistant cinematographer at the "Yeni Yol" cinema in Sheki.

Since 1936, he has worked at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio.

He taught cinematography at the Baku State Theater Technical School (1938-1939).

In early 1941, he dubbed feature films produced in various republics of the Soviet Union into Azerbaijani.

During the war years, he filmed in frontline areas. He shot hundreds of plots for the Moscow film magazines "Novosti dnya" and "Po strane sovetov".

He was one of the organizers of the amateur cinema movement in the republic.

In 1944, he founded the Salyan State Drama Theater on the basis of an amateur drama club and worked as its artistic director for a while.

Niyazi Badalov died in 1997.
