Nazir Rustamov was born in Aghjabadi.

He studied at the Drama and Film Directing Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1976-1980), and at directing courses in Moscow (1990-1991).

He worked as an actor, director, and artistic director at the Agdam State Drama Theater (1982-1994). He directed the play “Koshkin Dom” at the Mariupol Russian State Drama Theater in Ukraine (2004). In different years, he worked as an actor and director at the Sumgayit State Musical Drama Theater, the Fuzuli State Drama Theater, the Baku Municipal Theater, and the Academic National Drama Theater. He was one of the founders of the Azerbaijan State Derbent Drama Theater. He played roles in more than 120 performances. Since 2003, he has been working as a production director at the Shusha State Musical Drama Theater.

He is an Honored Artist (2017).
