Nazim Mammadov was born in Baku.
He studied at the Azim Azimzadeh State Art School (1957) and at the artist-animator courses at Soyuzmultfilm in Moscow (1961).
Since 1961, he has worked as a director-animator at the Azerbaijanfilm film studio. He has contributed to the development of the animation genre in Azerbaijan. He was engaged in children's book illustration and easel painting. He illustrated more than 400 children's books.
Nazim Mammadov died in 2004.
