Nariman Hasanzadeh was born in the Poylu settlement of Gazakh.

He studied at the Faculty of Language and Literature of the Ganja State Pedagogical Institute (1949-1953), at the Literature course in Moscow, and at the M. Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow (1957-1961). He was a postgraduate student at the Department of History of Azerbaijani Literature of Azerbaijan State University (1962-1965).

He worked as a senior editor at the Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee (1962), editor at the "Children's and Youth Literature Publishing House", department head at the "Azerbaijani Youth" newspaper and the "Azerbaijan" magazine, editor-in-chief of the "Literature and Art" newspaper (1976-1990), director of the Azerbaijani branch of the USSR Writers' Literature Fund, deputy chairman of the State Press Committee (1991-1993), and first deputy minister of press and information (1991-2001). In 1990-1995, he was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 He is the author of numerous books. The verse drama "Atabaylar" was performed on the stage of the National Theater.

Candidate of Philological Sciences (1965), Honored Artist (1981), People's Poet (2005). He was awarded the Heydar Aliyev Prize (2017), the "Sharaf" (2011), "Shohrat" and "Istiglal" (2021) orders (2011).

He currently works as the head of the "Humanitarian Sciences Department" of the Azerbaijan National Aviation Academy, is an associate professor.

He is the Chairman of the Board of the Literature Foundation (2004).
