Nadir Machanov was born in Baku.

He studied at the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University for three years. Then he completed his education in physics at Tashkent State University in Uzbekistan. He taught physics at the Tashkent City Secondary School for one year. He studied at the Faculty of Film Directing of the Tashkent State Institute of Culture and Arts (Shukhrat Abbasov's course), and at the Higher Directing Course of the All-Russian State University of Cinematography (Master Sergey Solovyov).

He has shot numerous documentaries and commercials in Uzbekistan.

He headed the jury of the “Golden Saffron” International Documentary Film Festival in Turkey (2018).

He is the director of the films “The Story of Khojaly” (2020, Portugal), “We Follow the Sun” (documentary, Uzbekistan-Austria), “Faith, Hope, Love” (documentary, Ukraine-Russia), “The Neighborhood is Our Common Home” (documentary, Uzbekistan-USA), “Do Not Leave Me Alone” (fiction, Uzbekistan), “The Cross of the Stolen Churches” (documentary, UK), and the screenwriter of the films “The Story of Khojaly” (2020, Portugal), “Astana, My Heart” (fiction, Kazakhstan-Russia, directed by Yegor Mikhalkov-Konchalovsky), “Haji Murad” (fiction, Russia), “Two Old Men” (fiction, Uzbekistan-UK) made by foreign filmmakers.

He is currently working in Baku.
