Mikayil Mushfig (Mikayil Ismayilzadeh) was born in Baku, originally from Khizi.
He received his primary education in a Russian-Tatar school. He studied at the Baku Darul-Muallim, the 2nd-grade school No. 12, and the Faculty of Language and Literature of the Azerbaijan State Darulfunun (1927-1931).
He began his career as a teacher. He taught in Baku secondary schools for seven years. In the 1930s, he worked as an editor at "Azernashr". He began his creative work in 1926 with the poem "Bu Gun" published in the "Ganj Ishchi" newspaper. After that, he regularly appeared in periodicals. A book of poems called "Winds" was published (1930). He was also seriously engaged in literary translation.
Mikayil Mushfig was shot on January 6, 1938 as a result of repression. He was posthumously acquitted by the decision of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR on May 23, 1956.
By Resolution No. 211 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 7, 2019, Mikayil Mushfig was included in the list of authors whose works were declared state heritage in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
