Mikayil Mirza (Mikayil Mirzayev) was born in the Talish village of Shamakhi (now Agsu district).

He studied at the Drama and Film Acting Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1965-1969, Mehdi Mammadov's course).

In addition to teaching at the Department of Stage Speech, he worked as an actor at the Educational Theater for a while. From 1976 to 2000 (with various breaks) he worked at the Academic National Drama Theater. He was the director of the Baku Cultural Education Technical School (1992-1995).

He starred in the film "The Interviewed Man" (1986, director Yuri Marukhin / Belarus) made by foreign film producers.

He was one of the fighters against the Soviet system. He was elected a deputy to the Milli Majlis twice (1995-2000, 2002-2005).

Honored Artist (1987), People's Artist (1991) Mikayil Mirza died in 2006 and was buried in the Second Alley of Honor.
