Mammad  Aslan (Mammad Aslanov) was born in the village of Lachin, Kalbajar region.

He studied at the Philology Faculty of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute (1957-1962).

He began his career as a teacher in the schools of Yanshag and Istisu villages in the Kalbajar region. He worked as a responsible secretary in the editorial office of the large-circulation "Yenilik" newspaper published in the region. In the late 1970s, he moved to Baku, where he worked in the magazines "Ulduz", "Azerbaijan Natirati", the editorial offices of the "Azerbaijani Youth", "Literature and Art" newspapers, and was a senior editor at the "Yazichi" publishing house, and editor-in-chief of the "Ekran-Efir" newspaper of the Azerbaijan State Television Company.

He began his artistic career in 1960 with his first poem published in the "Azerbaijani Muallimi" newspaper.

Mammad Aslan, laureate of the Order of Glory (2000), Honored Worker of Culture, died in Zagatala in 2015 and was buried in the Masazir cemetery.
