Maarif Teymur (Maarif Teymurov) was born in the village of Arkivan, Masalli region.
He studied at the Department of Bibliography of Azerbaijan State University (1965-1970), and at the Institute of History and Archival Studies in Moscow (1972-1974).
He began his career as a loader in the “Azerkitab” association (1964-1966). He worked in the department of the Azerbaijan State Archive of Literature and Art named after Salman Mumtaz as a junior research worker (1966), senior research worker (1969-1974), head of department (1974-1983), deputy director for scientific affairs (1983-1987), and director (1987-2016).
He first appeared in the press with an article entitled “Unknown Poems of Mushfiq” in the newspaper “Literature and Art” (1969). More than 250 articles and news about the unopened pages of literature have been published in newspapers and magazines. He actively participated in the creation of personal archive funds of more than 600 artists. He collected, compiled and published the poems of Almas Yildirim, and wrote a research work about him.
Honored Cultural Worker (2005) Maarif Teymur died in Masalli in 2016 and was buried in the village of Arkivan.
