Khan Babayev was born in the village of Seydekaran in Lankaran. In 1922, he moved to Baku with his family.
He studied at the Electronics Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Polytechnic (1931-1937), and the Cinematography Faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1938-1950, Boris Volchek's workshop).
Before the war, he worked as an assistant sound engineer, an electrician in various organizations, and as the second assistant to the head of the lighting department at the Azerbaijan State Academic Drama Theater. After the war, he worked as a cinematographer at a film studio on numerous films. Until 1967, he was the secretary of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan.
Khan Babayev died in 1967.
