Jafar Jabbarli was born in Khizi. His family moved to Baku in 1903 and lived in the upper part of the city called the "Mountainous Quarter".

He studied at the three-grade "7th Muslim and Russian" school (1905-1908), the 3rd Higher Primary School named after Alekseyev, and the Electromechanical Department of the Baku Polytechnic School (1915-1920). He entered the Medical Faculty of Azerbaijan State University, but dropped out because he was not interested in this specialty. In 1923, he began to listen to lectures at the Baku Turkish Theater School. At the same time, he continued his education at the History Department of the Oriental Faculty of Azerbaijan State University (1924). He attended the film actor and film director courses opened under the Azerbaijan Photo-Cinema Department (1925).

During the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, he was an active participant in political and social events and was elected secretary of the "Musavat" party. After the April events, he participated in the secret deportation of Mammad Amin Rasulzadeh to Lahij. After April 1920, he worked as a translator and literary worker at the "Communist" newspaper. He translated Shakespeare's tragedy "Hamlet" and was an active participant in its staging. His poems, stories, as well as numerous articles on theater, music, and literature were published in newspapers and magazines. Since 1930, he has worked as the head of the artistic department and director at the theater. His first poems began with the poems "To the Hearers" and "My Courage" published in the November 5, 1911 issue of the "Haqiqeti-Afkar" newspaper. He wrote works such as "Vafalı Sariyya or Laughter in Tears", "Fallen Flowers", "Nasreddin Shah", "The War of Tripoli or the Star", "The Conquest of Edirne", "The War of Baku", "Aydın", "Oktay Eloglu", "Sevil", "Almaz", "In 1905", "The Bride of Fire", "Yashar", and appeared in various press outlets with lyrical and satirical poems and stories. He spent the last years of his life working at a film studio. He is the first national film screenwriter of Azerbaijan with the film "Haji Kara".

Honored Art Worker (1932) Jafar Jabbarli died of a heart attack on December 31, 1934 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
