Ismayil Mammadov was born in Baku.

He studied Literary Creativity and Screen Dramaturgy at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art (2001-2005), and Directing at the Baku International Film School.

He worked as an assistant director at the “Azerbaijantelefilm” Creative Union (2002-2003), a director at ANS television (2005-2006), and a director at Space television. He participated in the filming of social videos at the “Internews Azerbaijan” organization (2003-2004), in seminars organized in Baku by the Danish Department of Foreign Affairs on Documentary Film Production in the South Caucasus (2004), and in the organization of the International Audiovisual Festival (2003, 2004). In 2003, he shot a 1-minute film called “Broken Pot” as part of the “Youth and Peace” project jointly organized by UNICEF and the Hopeful Future Youth Organization. The film was awarded a gold medal at the One Minute Film Cup festival (2003, Croatia), and won the Best Screenplay nomination at the 1st Samad Mardanov Student Film Festival in Baku. The film was listed as one of the 10 best films by UNICEF in 2003.

He currently lives abroad.
