Islam Safarli was born in the village of Shekarabad in the Babek region.

He studied at the Journalism Department of the Philology Faculty of Azerbaijan State University.

He worked for the "Eastern Gate", "Azerbaijan Youth", "Literary Newspaper" and the Writers' Union.

The theme of war was reflected in his poems. His plays such as "Eye Doctor", "Mother's Heart", "Crossroads", "Good and Evil", "The Legend of Dedegünesh" were staged. His essays, short stories, ballet librettos and numerous articles are very important in terms of keeping the pulse of the time. He has translated. Hundreds of songs written to his lyrics such as "Baku, Good Morning", "My Gentle Smile", "I Have Broken a Heart", "Come Visit Us", "Baku Girl", "What Time Is It", "Mother", "Ay Kaşı, She Is a Black Girl", "Ağ Halatlı Gezerleri", "Girliyimi Gezirəm", "Ayliyəmı Geçerleri" have become a household name. He has published 18 books.

Honored Artist (1973) Islam Safarli died in 1974 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
