Ilham Tumas (Ilham Aghayev) was born in Sumgayit.

He studied at the Faculty of Physics (1990-1992) and Social Sciences and Psychology (1993-1996) of Baku State University.

He voluntarily participated in the Karabakh battles, participated in the battles around Tartar in the "Kurtuluş" battalion (1992-1993). He served in the military as a platoon commander, deputy chief of personnel and regular unit (1996-2000), is a senior lieutenant in the reserve.

With breaks, he worked at the Jamshid Nakhchivanski Military Lyceum and in the Office of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis.

His first article in the press was published in the "Azerbaijan" newspaper in 1992. He worked in various press organizations, and was the editor-in-chief of the "24 Saat" newspaper (2008). His books have been published.

He worked at ANS TV, AzTV, ATV and APA TV. He was the host of the program “40 minutes with Ilham Tumas” on APA TV. Since 2019, he has been an employee of Public Television, the author and host of the television project “Investigation continues”. Since 2025, he has been the editor-in-chief of the RTV internet TV channel.

He was awarded the “Progress” medal (2025).

Journalist Ilham Tumas is the brother of producer Islam Agha.
