Hamida Omarova was born in Baku.

She studied at the Acting Faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1975-1979, Y. Metveyev's course).

She worked at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio (1979-1993), at the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan (1992-1993).

She prepared a series of programs on the history of world cinema in the "Retro" television program of Azerbaijan television (since 1986), was the scriptwriter of the "Kinostrikh" program (2002), and was the host of the "Session" program on ANS television.

She actively participated in the dubbing and sound recording of more than 500 feature films.

She starred in the films of foreign filmmakers “Dentist” (Russia), “Caucasian Dreams” (Russia), “I Like Him” (1986, directed by Anvar Turayev / Tajikistan) as Telli, “Surgery” (1988), “Black Winter” (1992 / Iran), “Scary Games” (1992 / Uzbekistan) series, “Dungeon of the Giants” (1993, directed by Hasan Mammadzadeh / Iran) as Nuriye, “Drongo” (2002, directed by Zinoviy Roizman / Russia) as Elmira, and “Weapon” (2008, directed by Alexander Kasatkin / Russia) series.

She has written the books “Feminism in Azerbaijani Cinema”, “US Cinema: 1895-1945”, “American Cinema History”. She is currently a professor at the “Cinema Studies” department of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.

Honored Artist (1988), People's Artist (2005).

Chairman of the Azerbaijan Film Actors Guild.
