Hajibaba Huseynov was born in the Chambarakand neighborhood of Baku.

Growing up in a religious family, he sang noha and mersiyya in mosques and funerals at an early age. In 1938, he acquired a tape recording of the singer Zulfu Adigozalov and repeated what he sang. In 1945, he met the teacher and tar player Ahmad Bakikhanov. He was invited to his ensemble as a drum player and worked there for three years. He learned the intricacies of mugham from Ahmad Bakikhanov and considered him his main teacher until the end of his life.

In 1963, he was invited to teach mugham at the Azerbaijan State Music School. He taught at that school for 30 years until the end of his life.

He was the first performer of the "Ushshak" and "Huseyn" sections of the Rast mugham, Novruz-Ravan, and the "Shah Khatai" sections of other mughams. On his initiative, the “Dilruba” section of Bayati-Shiraz mugham was added to the textbook.

Honored Artist (1989), People's Artist (1990) Hajibaba Huseynov died in 1993 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
