Gunel Mehri was born in Baku.
She studied at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
She worked in the Azerbaijani editorial office of Lider TV (2002-2006), Azerbaijan TV (2006-2009), the Cultural Center of the Ministry of National Security (2009) and Azad Azerbaijan TV (2011-2015). Her articles are occasionally published in the press. She is currently an employee of Public TV.
Screenwriter Gunel Mehri is the wife of director Emil Babayev.
