Gadir Rustamov was born in Aghdam.
He first took mugham lessons from Hajibaba Huseynov at the Azerbaijan State Music School, and later continued his education in Aghdam.
A number of mugham dastgahs in his performance - "Rast", "Chahargah" - were recorded and are kept in the radio's collection. The song "Sona bulbuller" in his performance is especially popular.
Laureate of the "Shohrat" Order (1997), Honored Artist (1989), People's Artist (1992) Gadir Rustamov died in Istanbul in 2011 and was buried in the Alley of Honor in Baku.
