Ertoghrul Javid was born in Baku.

He studied at the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute (1940), the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1941-1942, Uzeyir Hajibeyov's class).

He worked in the scientific-research office of folk music at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory led by Bulbul (1939-1942), participated in the collection of musical folklore samples.

He taught at the music school under the conservatory (1941-1942).

His first major work is "9 Variations" for piano. He wrote a poem for violin and piano (1941), romances and songs to ghazals and poems, the symphonic ballad "Letter from the Border", marches. The operas "Sheikh Senan", "Mashati", a number of chamber and instrumental works remained unfinished.

He set Azerbaijani folk songs to music and translated romances and songs of European and Russian composers into Azerbaijani, which were published in separate sheet music.

He has poems, plays and paintings.

Despite being a student in 1942, he was drafted into the army and, since he was the son of an "Enemy of the People", was sent to work in a labor battalion in Georgia, not to the front.

Ertoghrul Javid died of a serious illness on November 14, 1943 in Nakhchivan. His grave is in the mausoleum of Huseyn Javid in Nakhchivan, next to the graves of his father and mother.
