Elkhan Gasimov was born in Nakhchivan. While in high school, he joined a dance club, played basketball and volleyball. He performed in the Nakhchivan youth volleyball team. He was a laureate of a festival in Baku as a dancer. He was a professional dancer and soloist in the Nakhchivan State Song and Dance Ensemble.

He studied at the Acting Department of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1962-1966) and the Directing Department of the Leningrad State Institute of Cinematography (1973-1978).

Since 1969, he has worked at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio. He is the author of feature films, documentaries, and “Mozalan” plots. For a long time, he was the chairman of the Trade Union Committee of the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio.

Honored Artist (2000) Elkhan Gasimov died in 2023 and was buried in the Khirdalan cemetery.

Director and actor Elkhan Gasimov is the father of director and actor Samir Gasimov.
