Janali Akbarov was born in the village of Tukavila in Lankaran.
He studied at the Lankaran Medical College (1956-1958), the singing department of the Baku Music School named after Asaf Zeynalli (1963-1968), and the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1976-1982).
He worked as a soloist at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic (1963-1975), the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (1976-2006).
Since 1992, he has taught at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, and for many years was the head of the Mugham Art Department.
He is the author of the book “The Artistic, Aesthetic, Philosophical Essence of Mugham and Problems of Teaching”.
Honored Artist (1989), People's Artist (1992), Professor (2008), laureate of the "Artist" medal (2015), "Shohrat" (2000), "Sharaf" (2010) orders, Janali Akbarov died in 2021 and was buried in the II Alley of Honor.
