Budag Budagov

Budag Budagov was born in the village of Chobankara in the Zangibasar region (now Masis district) of Western Azerbaijan.
He studied at the Irevan Azerbaijan Pedagogical School (1940-1941, 1945-1947), the Faculty of Geography of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute (1947-1951), and the postgraduate course of the Institute of Geography of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
He began his labor activity as an assistant to the collective farm foreman in the village where he was born.
He defended his dissertation on the topic "Geomorphology of the northern slope of the South-Eastern Caucasus" (1955, Moscow).
He worked as a teacher at the Department of Physical Geography of Azerbaijan State University (1965-1968), head of the Department of Nature at the Azerbaijan Social and Political College, junior research worker at the Institute of Geography of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences (1955-1958), senior research worker, head of the Department of Landscape Studies (1967-1986), head of the Department of Physical Geography and Cartography (1986), deputy director for scientific affairs (1974-1983, 1986), director, chairman of the specialized council for dissertation defense (1990), scientific secretary of the Azerbaijan Geographical Society (1958-1962), deputy president (1970-1990), president. He was the chairman of the Council of Elders of the Republic (1997-2012), full member of the International Academy of Modern Sciences named after Lutfizadeh (1999), member of the Toponymy Commission under the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1999) and chairman of the commission (2000).
Honored Scientist (2008), USSR State Prize laureate, "Shohrat" (2000) and "Sharaf" orders, Doctor of Geographical Sciences (1968), professor (1969), academician (1989) Budag Budagov died in 2012.
