Barat Shakinskaya was born in Shusha.
As a child, she participated in the role of Sakina in the play "Shabih" performed in Shusha in 1920. Her father, Habib Khan, went on the run when the Bolsheviks captured Baku in 1920. In 1920, her mother moved with her children to the village of Goytepe in Agdam, and in 1923 to Ganja. She began studying at a girls' school in Ganja, and in 1927 she was admitted to a pedagogical school. She began performing as an amateur actress in various drama clubs of both the school and the city. In 1929, she was hired as an actress in the "Workers' Club" of the Ganja Trade Union. In 1930, after graduating from the pedagogical school, she was sent to work as a teacher at the Sarkar village school. At the same time, she increased her activity as an amateur actress in the drama circles of the "Women's Club", "Workers' Club" and "Railwaymen's Club". In 1933, she was accepted into the troupe of the Ganja Turkish Workers' Theater. In 1935, she resigned from the Ganja State Drama Theater and came to Baku to study medicine. That same year, she was accepted into the acting troupe of the Academic National Drama Theater. The main period of her creativity was connected with the Academic National Drama Theater from 1935. She was the first travesty - an actress of Azerbaijan who played boy roles. She played a child role for the last time at the age of 37: the role of 7th grade student Nazli in the play "Flourishing Dreams" (Mahmadhuseyin Tahmasib). The roles of Kostya at the Ganja Theater and Napoleon in Baku in 1939 are recorded in our theater history with their high artistic and aesthetic merits. She was called the "Juliet of the Azerbaijani stage". Since 1935, she was involved in radio broadcasts at the initiative of Mustafa Mardanov. She said goodbye to the stage in the 70s.
Honored Artist (1940), People's Artist (1949) Barat Shakinskaya died in 1999 and was buried in the Second Alley of Honor.
