Baba Mahmudoghlu (Baba Mirzayev) was born in the village of Muganli in the Gazakh region.

While a student at the Oil Academy, he studied mugham at the Asef Zeynalli Music School and attended Seyid Shushinsky's classes. He studied in the orchestras and ensembles of Said Rustamov, Ahmad Bakikhanov, Baba Salahov, and Ahsen Dadashov.

In 1962, he began his career as an intern at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, and later became a soloist of the theater's mugham department. He created the characters of Majnun in "Leyli and Majnun", Ashig Garib in "Ashiq Garib", Keram in "Asli and Kerem", the clown in "Koroghlu", Shah Ismail in "Shah Ismail", and Mir Seyid in "The Fate of the Singer".

Honored Artist (1982), People's Artist (1992) Baba Mahmudoglu died in 2006.
