Altay Zahidov was born in Baku.
He studied at Azerbaijan State University (1957).
He worked as a correspondent and commentator at the Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee (1954-1974), and as the head of the correspondent station of Azerbaijan Television and Radio in Moscow (1974-1991).
In 1991, he was elected secretary of the Azerbaijan Journalists' Union.
He was a senior lecturer and professor at the Faculty of Journalism of Western University.
Altay Zahidov died in 2017.
