Alasgar Sharifov was born in Shamakhi.
When he was six years old, his family moved to Baku. He entered the evening department of the Electromechanical Faculty of the Nariman Narimanov Technical School. At the same time, he studied among the first students of the theater technical school opened in 1923. During his student years, he played leading roles in the drama circle of the Schwartz club. He also appeared on stage in episodic roles in the performances of the Academic Theater. In 1926, he went to Moscow to receive higher education and studied for two years at the experimental theater workshop of the Moscow Institute of Theater Arts on the course of Vsevolod Meyerhold. When he arrived in Baku, he was accepted into the creative staff of the Academic National Drama Theater. The Collective Farm-State Farm Theater was established in Baku and he became its artistic director. He staged plays. In 1932, he directed Huseyn Javid's tragedy "Sheikh Sanan" at the Academic Theater. In 1934, he was appointed director of the National Drama Theater. In 1935, he staged Gurban Musayev's drama "Golden Fountain" as his first independent work at this theater. He staged performances at the Young Spectators Theater, the Ganja State Drama Theater, and the Nakhchivan State Musical Drama Theater.
