Akif Akhundov was born in the village of Qishlagabbas, Sharur region.
He studied at Azerbaijan State University and the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In different years, he worked as a special correspondent for the Nagorno-Karabakh-Lachin and Sheki-Zagatala zones of the current "Xalq newspaper", editor-in-chief of the "Sovet Nakhchivani" and "Sharq qapisi" newspapers, chairman of the Cultural Foundation of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, department head and editor-in-chief at Nakhchivan TV and Radio. He is the author of about 30 books, mostly turning to the detective genre.
