Afag Bashirgizi (Afag Safarova) was born in Baku. She studied at the cultural education faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1974-1979). For a while, she worked in the drama club of the House of Culture of Medical Workers (headed by Maharram Bedirzade). She began her acting career in 1973 at the Lankaran State Drama Theater. Her first role was Sarvinaz in Mirza Ibrahimov's play "Good Man" at the age of 18. Since 1975, she has been working at the Sumgayit State Drama Theater, and since 1989 at the Musical Comedy Theater. She is the head of the Bashir Satire Theater, which she founded. She is a professor at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. She has been awarded the "Golden Dervish" award twice (1993, 2003). She is an Honored Artist (1989), People's Artist (1993), and a laureate of the "Shohrat" Order (2013).
Actress Afag Bashirgizi is the daughter of actor Bashir Safaroghlu.
