Adil Aliyev

Adil Aliyev was born in Baku. He studied at the Geological and Geographical Faculty of Azerbaijan State University (1954). Since 1954, he began his work as a junior research worker at the Institute of Geology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. In 1958, he defended his PhD thesis and received the degree of Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences. He headed the laboratories of Bituminology and Organic Matter of Rocks (1969-1970) and Geochemistry of Mud Volcanoes (1972-1986). He worked as a chief engineer-geochemist and scientific consultant at the Syrian Oil Company (Damascus) (1986-1990). In 1992, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Geochemistry of Mud Volcanism and Oil and Gas of Great Depths”. Since 1997, he has been heading the Mud Volcanism Department of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics. He is the author of more than 300 scientific works and 15 books. He was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2010), the Order of "Shohrat" (2018). He is a Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1992), Professor, Honored Scientist (2005).
