Abbas Mirza Sharifzadeh was born in the Yukhari Gala neighborhood of Shamakhi. After the earthquake in Shamakhi in 1902, his family moved to Baku. He studied at the gymnasium (1903). He began his professional stage career in 1908, first playing an episodic role (a mute girl) in the play “The Forced Doctor” (Moliere). In 1910, he was accepted into the theater collective established under the “Maarif” society, and performed in the theater troupes of the “Safa” and “Nijat” societies. In 1911, he created his first image that confirmed him as an artist: the image of Gajar in the tragedy “Aga Muhammad Shah Gajar” (Abdurahim bey Hagverdiyev). In 1916, he was invited to the troupe of the Hajibeyov brothers as a director. In 1917, he was elected chairman of the newly established "Union of Muslim Artists" (1917-1918). He took the first initiative in the field of theater education in the country by creating a theater studio under the Union. He played Hamlet for the first time on the stage of the Azerbaijani theater (1926). In 1929, he took first place in the All-Union competition for the performance of the roles of Othello and Hamlet held in Moscow. He is also considered one of the first Azerbaijani directors. He staged the works "Sheikh Sanan", "Ogtay Eloglu", "Aydin", "Aga Mahammad Shah Qajar", "Gachag Kerem", and was the production director of the operas "Leyli and Majnun", "Asli and Kerem", "Ashiq Garib", "Shah Ismail". His name is also among the first in the history of Azerbaijani cinema. He was the first national film director. Honored Artist (1928), People's Artist (1935) Abbas Mirza Sharifzade was arrested on December 4, 1937. On October 19, 1938, he was sentenced to be shot "for espionage activities." The sentence was carried out on November 16. He was acquitted in 1955. Director, actor Abbas Mirza Sharifzadeh is the husband of actress Marziya Davudova.
