Tahir Tahirovich (Tahir Aliyev) was born in Baku.

He studied at the Film Directing Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (1993-1998, Jamil Guliyev's workshop), received a master's degree in cinema from Istanbul Beykent University in Turkey (2012-2014), and a doctoral degree in art history from the Theater, Film and Television Department of the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

He worked as an assistant director at "Azerbaijanfilm" (1995-2000), a film director at the "Azerbaijantelefilm" Creative Union of Azerbaijan Television (2003-2007), a director at the Special Projects Department of Azerbaijan Television (2007-2008), a film director at the Salname documentary film studio (2008-2015), and the artistic director of the ARB Aran Film Creative Center (2015-2020).

He is the founder and director of the Nova Gorica Cinema Center, the Azerbaijani representative of the Slovenian-Azerbaijani Friendship Society, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan Cinematographers Union.

He has been awarded many awards at local and foreign film festivals. He was awarded the Republic “Youth Award” (2005), a special diploma from Erzurum Ataturk University (2009, Erzurum), the Honorary Award of the city of Novo-Goriča, Republic of Slovenia (2010, Novo-Goriča), a diploma from Kars Caucasus University (2012, Kars), a special diploma from the Azerbaijan German Friendship Society (2012, Baku), the Prize of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan (2014, Baku), the Prize and commemorative medal of the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin “On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War” (2015, Moscow), the “Golden Fairy” film award in the nomination “The best television film of the year” (2015), and the commemorative medal for his services in strengthening Azerbaijani-Polish relations (2016, Warsaw).

He is the author of the book “Once Upon a Time in a Pit” (2024).
