Rasul Rza (Rasul Rzayev) was born in Goychay.
He studied at the Transcaucasian Communist University (1927-1937), the Azerbaijan State Scientific Research Institute, the Moscow Institute of Nations, and the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1934-1937).
During the war years, he worked as a military correspondent. He was the head of the script department at the Baku Film Studio (1937-1938), chairman of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (1939), director of the Baku Film Studio (1942-1944), head of the Cinematography Department (1944-1946), Minister of Cinematography of Azerbaijan (1946-1949), editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijan Encyclopedia (1966-1975), chairman of the Republican Solidarity Committee with Asian and African Countries (1960-1981), chairman of the Republican Board of the News Press Agency (1966-1975), and member of the Board of the USSR Writers' Union (since 1964). His first poem, "Today," was published in the "Spark" almanac in Tbilisi in 1927. In the 1960s, the subject matter of his work expanded, and his poetry strengthened the intellectual source, analytical artistic perception, and philosophical approach to events. He was engaged in translation into Azerbaijani. He translated the texts of Soviet films into Azerbaijani for dubbing.
State Prize laureate (1951), Honored Artist (1943), People's Poet (1960), Hero of Socialist Labor (1980) Rasul Rza died in 1981 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
The poet Rasul Rza is the father of the writer Anar Rzayev.
