Mirza Alakbar Sabir (Alakbar Tahirzadeh) was born in Shamakhi.
Although he received his initial education in a mullah's house, he later studied at a new-style school founded by Seyid Azim Shirvani.
However, after a year or two, he worked as an assistant in his father's shop. In 1885, he went on a pilgrimage, traveled to Central Asia, and from there to Iran, visiting the cities of Sabzivar, Nishapur, Samarkand, Bukhara, Mashhad and Khorasan. After returning from his first trip, he married in 1887. For a while, he baked and sold soap. Starting from the beginning of the 20th century, his poems appeared in the press. In 1903, his poem was published in the "Shargi-Rus" newspaper. In 1906, he was one of the most active authors of the "Molla Nasreddin" magazine. For a while, he worked as a proofreader in the editorial office of the "Irshad" newspaper. In 1908, he received a diploma as a native language and Sharia teacher from the Caucasian Sheikh-ul-Islamic Administration. For a while, he worked as an assistant teacher in one of the Shamakhi schools. That year, he succeeded in opening the "Umid" school he had long dreamed of. In 1910, he came to Baku to work. At first, he worked in the editorial office of the "Zanbur" magazine. Soon after, he began teaching at the "Nijat" school in Balakhani. Along with his teaching, he approached the workers working in the Balakhani oil fields and local revolutionaries and became an active member of the "Nur" library they opened. He worked in the editorial office of the "Gunesh" and "Haqiqat" newspapers. The "Gunesh" newspaper published a humorous page every Friday under the title "Palanduz". He regularly published revealing works on this page under the signatures "Nizedar" and "Chuvalduz". At the same time, he continued to write to "Molla Nasreddin". In 1910, he fell ill and returned to Shamakhi. In 1911, he went to Tbilisi for treatment and closely assisted in the editorial work of the "Molla Nasreddin" magazine.
Mirza Alakbar Sabir died in 1911 and was buried in the "Seven Domes Cemetery" in Shamakhi.
By the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 7, 2019, Mirza Alakbar Sabir was included in the list of authors whose works are declared state heritage in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
