Aziz Mirahmedov was born in Baku.

He studied at the Language and Literature Faculty of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute and the Philology Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University (1938-1941). He was a postgraduate student at the Azerbaijan State University.

He began his career at the Nizami Literature Institute of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences (1942), where he worked at various intervals as a research assistant (1945-1947), senior research assistant (1953-1958 / 1960-1963), head of department (1964-1980), deputy director (1980-1981), director (1981-1985). He was a senior lecturer at the Azerbaijan State University (1943-1947), a senior lecturer at the Azerbaijan State University of Literature (1949-1952), and a deputy head of department at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan (1960-1963). His first article was published in the "Teacher's Newspaper" (1938) while he was still a student. As a young man, he closely participated in the preparation of the two-volume "Concise History of Azerbaijani Literature" (1943-1944), gaining initial experience, and in later years he became one of the main authors of the three-volume "History of Azerbaijani Literature" (1958-1960). He defended his dissertation on the topic "Jalil Mammadguluzadeh and the Stages of Development of the Azerbaijani Press in the Early 20th Century" and received the title of Doctor of Sciences. He is the author of 18 books and more than 500 scientific articles.
